Akanni in windy 20.89 run

Akanni Hislop was golden in the boys' under-20 200 metres event, on the third and final day of the 45th Carifta Games, at the National Athletics Stadium here in St George's, Grenada, this evening. The Trinidad and Tobago athlete won the final in a wind-assisted 20.89 seconds, forcing Bahamian Keanu Pennerman (21.03) and Antiguan Coull Graham (21.05) to settle for silver and bronze, respectively.

Tyrell Edwards earned silver in the boys' under-18 200m, the T&T sprinter getting to the line in 21.56 seconds. Jamaican Michael Stephens (21.43) finished second, with third spot going to Barbadian Matthew Clarke (21.75).

Jeminise Parris got bronze in the girls' under-20 100m hurdles in a windy 13.73 seconds. Jamaican Sidney Marshall also clocked 13.73, but edged Parris for the silver medal. Marshall's teammate, Rushelle Burton took gold in 13.36.

The last of T&T's medals was earned by the boys' under-18 4x400m team, Recardo Prescott, Onal Mitchell, Che Lara and Jaden St Louis combining for bronze in 3:15.33. Jamaica (3:12.54) and Barbados (3:13.16) were first and second, respectively.

Ako Hislop was fourth in the boys' under-18 110m hurdles in a wind-aided 14.08 seconds. Kershel McIntyre (2:15.95) claimed fourth spot in the girls' under-18 800m. Anya Akili got home in a windy 14.03 for fifth spot in the girls' under-18 100m hurdles. And in the boys' under-18 800m, Jaden St Louis (1:55.65) was fifth.

T&T ended the Games with three gold medals, two silver and nine bronze for a total of 14. T&T finished fourth on the medal table. Jamaica (42 gold medals, 28 silver, 16 bronze) emerged victorious yet again.

James throws 44.44m

Asha James earned Carifta bronze for Trinidad and Tobago on Monday morning with a 44.44 metres throw in the girls' under-18 javelin. Gold went to Daneliz Thomas, the Cayman Islands thrower landing the spear 45.97m. Grenada's Holly Charles (44.75m) picked up silver.

Anya Akili secured a lane in this afternoon's girls' under-18 100m hurdles final. The girls' open heptathlon bronze medallist finished fourth in heat two in 14.50 seconds to progress as a “fastest loser”. Akili's teammate, Cheziah Phillip was fifth in heat one in 14.77, and did not advance.

In the boys' under-18 long jump, T&T's Aaron Cruickshank (6.48m) and Josiah Edwards (6.45m) were 11th and 12th, respectively. Bahamian Denvaughn Whymns (7.16m) grabbed gold, ahead of Guadeloupe's Enzo Hodebar (7.09m) and Jamaican Shakwon Coke (7.05m).

Medals too for relay girls

Anya Akili secured bronze in the girls' open heptathlon with a total of 4,471 points. Jamaicans Janell Fullerton (4,597) and Zinedine Russell (4,524) were first and second, respectively.

Two T&T 4x100m relay teams claimed bronze.

Akeera Esdelle, Akilah Lewis, Shania McCarter and Jenea Spinks combined for third spot in the girls' under-18 sprint relay in 47.27 seconds. Jamaica (45.87) and Bahamas (46.37) finished first and second, respectively. And in the under-20 age-group, Sarah Wollaston, Jada Barker, Jeminise Parris and Renee Stoddard teamed up for third in 46.68. Again, Jamaica (44.30) and Bahamas (45.62) took the top two spots.

T&T finished fourth in the boys' under-18 4x100m relay in 42.16 seconds. Jamaica won in a Games record time of 40.40, from Bahamas (41.42) and Grenada (41.89).

Vandell Joseph threw 61.76 metres to finish fourth in the boys' under-20 javelin. His teammate, Odell Joefield (56.07m) was eighth. Anderson Peters of Grenada threw 78.28m to strike gold, breaking Keshorn Walcott's Games record in the process. Another Grenadian, Markim Felix was second at 69.41m, with third spot going to Barbadian Kalvin Marcus (61.99m).

Che Richards was fourth in the boys' under-20 long jump with a 7.36m leap. Gold was grabbed by Suriname's Miguel van Assen (7.66m), with the minor medals going to Jamaicans O'Brien Wasome (7.52m) and Shown-D Thompson (7.45m).

And in the boys' open octathlon, T&T athletes Ian West (5,503 points) and Kerlon Ashby (4,822) were fifth and 10th, respectively.

Akanni in 21.01

Akanni Hislop is through to tomorrow's Carifta Games boys' under-20 200 metres final, after winning his qualifying heat on Sunday morning in 21.01 seconds. He was the fastest of the eight qualifiers.

Tyrell Edwards advanced to the boys' under-18 200m final. He triumphed in heat three in a wind-assisted 21.72.

Girls' under-20 100m champion Khalifa St Fort withdrew from the 200m event because of a hip injury.

Kershel McIntyre and Joanna Rogers qualified for the girls' under-18 800m final. Both T&T athletes advanced via the "fastest loser" route. McIntyre was third in her heat in two minutes, 19.66 seconds. Rogers finished fourth in the other heat in 2:19.52.

And Jaden St Louis booked his spot in the boys' under-18 800m final with a third-place finish in the second heat in 1:57.72. Recardo Prescott is out after finishing eighth in heat three in 2:09.75.

St Fort clocks 11.40

Khalifa St Fort struck gold for Trinidad and Tobago in the Carifta Games girls' under-20 100 metres dash, on Saturday night. The US-based sprinter got home in 11.40 seconds, finishing well ahead of Jamaica's Patrice Moody (11.68) and Bahamian Brianne Bethel (11.75).

Adell Colthrust bagged bronze for T&T in the boys' under-18 100m with a 10.66 seconds run. Jamaicans Jhevaughn Matherson (10.42) and Dejour Russell (10.60) finished one-two.

There was bronze too for Onal Mitchell in the boys' under-18 400m, the T&T quartermiler completing his lap of the track in 48.72 seconds. Jamaican Christopher Taylor grabbed gold in 47.36, forcing Barbadian Antoni Hoyte-Small to settle for silver in 48.23.

T&T's Chelsea James produced a 13.66 metres effort to claim bronze in the girls' under-20 shot put. Jamaicans Janell Fullerton (14.52m) and Sahjay Stevens (13.74m) were first and second, respectively.

Horsford betters Games record

Tyriq Horsford repeated as boys' under-18 javelin champion at the Carifta Games, here in St George's, Grenada, today. The Trinidad and Tobago athlete struck gold with a 73.00 metres throw - a new Games record. Dominica's Keyon Burton (64.87m) earned silver, with bronze going to Grenadian Adrian Thomas (60.97m).

T&T's Ianna Roach earned silver in the girls' under-18 shot put with a 14.49m throw. Cayman Islands athlete Lacee Barnes (14.90m) captured the title, while bronze was bagged by Jamaican Aiko Jones (14.32m).
